This information is necessary for us to prepare a customized offer for you.

What is Beekeeping Insurance?

Beekeeping is the most harmonious production model with nature, but also the most exposed to nature’s risks. Especially migratory beekeepers spend most of the year in mountains and highlands. During this process, hives can be exposed to storms, floods, and the biggest fear – bear attacks. Additionally, the risk of accidents during long transportation from one region to another for honey harvest is high. Beekeeping Insurance is a state-supported insurance product that protects registered, plated, and active (containing bees) hives in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Beekeeping Registration System (AKS) against natural disasters, accidents, and wild animal attacks.

As Panacea Insurance, we protect the sweat of our honey producers under TARSİM guarantee, and we stand by you in any disaster that may befall your hives.

How Much of the Premium Does the State Pay?

Our state provides 50% support for premiums, knowing the strategic importance of beekeeping:

  • 50% Premium Support: The state pays half of the policy premium as a grant. The beekeeper only pays the remaining 50%.
  • Young and Female Farmers: An additional 5% discount is applied to young beekeepers under 40 and female producers.
  • Organic Beekeeping: Special discounts are available for those with organic certification.

What Does the Policy Cover?

Beekeeping Insurance covers the hive itself, the bee colony inside, and honey if present. The coverages include:

  • Storm and Tornado: Strong winds overturning or blowing away hives.
  • Flood and Water Inundation: Floods experienced in accommodations near stream beds.
  • Landslide and Earthquake: Burial of hives as a result of soil movement.
  • Vehicle Collision: A vehicle crashing into the area where hives are located.
  • Fire: Burning of hives (including forest fires).
  • Wild Animal Attack (BEAR): Destruction of hives as a result of bear attacks, which is the biggest problem for beekeepers, is covered.
  • Transportation (Migratory Beekeeping): Damage resulting from truck accidents, overturning, or burning during hive relocation.

What is Not Covered? (Exclusions)

As with any insurance, some situations are excluded from coverage:

  • Diseases: Deaths due to bee diseases (Varroa, American Foulbrood, etc.) are not covered.
  • Theft: Theft of hives is not included in the standard policy (However, it can be negotiated with additional premium under some special conditions).
  • Hive Abandonment: Bees abandoning the hive (swarming, etc.) is not an insurable event.
  • Agricultural Spraying: Bee deaths resulting from spraying in surrounding fields are excluded (This is the responsibility of the person doing the spraying).

Insurance Requirements

The following conditions must be met for a TARSİM policy:

  1. AKS Registration: Hives must be registered in the Beekeeping Registration System (AKS).
  2. Plate Requirement: Each hive to be insured must have a legible plate number on it. Hives without plates cannot be insured.
  3. Modern Hive: Only modern (fenni) hives are insured. Primitive (traditional) hives are excluded.
  4. Insuring All: It is essential to insure all hives registered in AKS in the operation. Selective insurance is not allowed.

Your Other Agricultural Assets

It is important to obtain Crop Insurance to protect the flowers and fruit trees from which your bees collect honey against hail risk. Additionally, if you also raise sheep and goats along with your bees in the highlands, you can protect your herd against wolf attacks with Small Livestock Life Insurance.

What Should You Do in Case of Damage?

When your hives are damaged:

  1. 24-Hour Rule: Report to TARSİM Call Center (172) as soon as you notice the damage (within 24 hours at the latest).
  2. Do Not Intervene: Do not move the hives or destroy evidence until the expert arrives.
  3. Take Photos: In case of bear attack or flood, taking photos of the scene will be useful for the expert.

You can access detailed information about beekeeping insurance tariffs and instructions from the official website of TARSİM (Agricultural Insurance Pool). Panacea Insurance is always by the side of our beekeepers.

In conclusion, Beekeeping Insurance is the guardian of your hives on the mountaintop. Don’t let bear claws or floodwaters take away your labor.
May your hives be full and your honey be healing with Panacea Insurance. We wish you bountiful seasons.
