Poultry Life Insurance

Poultry farming is the most industrial and fastest-cycling branch of the agricultural sector. However, this speed and intensity bring significant risks. In an environment where thousands of living beings reside in an enclosed space, a stop in ventilation due to a power outage or a virus infecting the flock can lead to mass deaths within minutes. Poultry Life Insurance is a state-subsidized insurance type that provides coverage against death risks for poultry in closed-system houses that are registered in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s registration systems (TÜRKVET) and have implemented biosecurity measures.

Panacea Insurance stands by all poultry producers, whether they are engaged in contract production with integrated facilities or managing their own enterprises. With the assurance of TARSİM, we close the door of your coop to risks.

How Much of the Premium Does the State Pay?

State support is essential for the continuity of production in this high-risk sector:

  • 50% Premium Subsidy: Regardless of whether it is Narrow or Comprehensive coverage, the state covers half of the policy premium as a grant. The producer pays the remaining half.
  • Women and Young Farmer Discount: An additional 5% discount is applied to female producers and young farmers under the age of 40.
  • Contracted Production: Most of the poultry sector is based on the contracted production model. Special discounts can be applied to producers working with this model.

Which Risks are Under Coverage?

Poultry Life Insurance provides very detailed protection, especially in “Comprehensive” policies:

  • Infectious Diseases: Deaths occurring due to infectious diseases specified in the general conditions that are not notifiable (or not excluded).
  • Technical Failures: Mass deaths caused by lack of air or heat stress resulting from the failure of generators, fans, or climate control systems. (This is the biggest risk for modern poultry houses).
  • Natural Disasters: Collapse of the poultry house and death of animals due to storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, inundation, landslides, and snow weight.
  • Fire and Explosion: Deaths and compulsory slaughters resulting from a fire in the poultry house.
  • Accidents: Wild animal attacks, poisonings, and other accidents.
  • Salmonella Coverage (Important): Salmonella disease coverage, which can be included in the policy with an additional premium, is critical especially for breeding and layer enterprises.

Non-Negotiable: Biosecurity and Risk Inspection

TARSİM does not insure every poultry house. It is mandatory for the facility to be insured to perform “Closed System” production and to meet specific biosecurity criteria. Before the policy is issued, TARSİM adjusters visit and perform the following checks:

  1. Physical Conditions: Is the perimeter of the poultry house surrounded by a wire fence or wall? Are entrances and exits controlled?
  2. Hygiene: Are there disinfection pools/tunnels for vehicles and personnel?
  3. Technical Equipment: Is the generator working? Are alarm systems active? Is ventilation sufficient?
  4. Records: Are the vaccination schedule and health records maintained regularly?

Note: Insurance is not provided to poultry houses that fail the risk inspection. Correction of deficiencies is requested.

Which Poultry are Covered?

The following groups can be insured under TARSİM:

  • Broiler Chickens
  • Layer Hens
  • Breeding (Parent Stock) Poultry
  • Turkeys
  • Quail, Partridge, Ostrich, Pheasant, Duck, and Geese (those raised in closed systems).

Your Farm’s Other Investments

If you are engaged in cattle farming in addition to poultry in your enterprise, examine our Livestock Life Insurance page. Additionally, taking out Crop Insurance for the fields where you grow forage crops ensures your feed supply.

Which Situations are Paid?

Examples for a clear understanding of coverage:

SituationCoverage Status
Mass Death due to Generator Failure✅ Paid (Technical Damage)

What to Do in Case of Loss? (24 Hours)

Deaths spread very quickly in poultry farming. At the time of loss:

  1. Immediate Notification: Notification must be made to TARSİM as soon as a sign of death or illness is observed (within 24 hours at the latest).
  2. Preserving Evidence: If there is a technical failure, the adjuster should be awaited before the faulty part is replaced. Dead animals should be preserved (within possibilities) until the adjuster arrives.
  3. Reporting: Flock tracking forms and temperature/humidity logger data should be presented to the adjuster.

You can visit the official TARSİM (Agricultural Insurance Pool) website for the technical conditions and risk inspection criteria of poultry life insurance. Panacea Insurance produces policies that comply with the biosecurity standards of your poultry house.

In conclusion, Poultry Life Insurance is the insurance of modern poultry farming. It is the biggest supporter for our producers who carry the responsibility of thousands of living beings.
With Panacea Insurance, let your poultry houses be safe and your production continuous.
